A Typical Day @ Maker Lab Camp!
9:00 am  Morning Mindset Challenge & Check-In!  If the mindset of the day is responsibility, inventors might be asked to go on a scavenger hunt around the Maker Lab to look for color-coded safety and organization clues.
9:30 am- 10:15 am  Group Make It or Break It Time! A fun and engaging challenge designed to develop maker skills and science understanding: balloon rockets...taking apart toys or electronics...paperclip zip lines...density towers...designing 3D prototypes...digital coding with LEGOS etc. Inventors may be asked to work individually or in small groups.
10:15 am -11:30 am  The Big Kahuna! Based on the one or two projects each inventor selects prior to camp (via private Pinterest board) this is the time inventors devote to digging in and working towards a unique design or goal. Inventors will learn about and use a design thinking process: GOAL - IDEAS - PLAN/DESIGN - FIRST TRY - TEST - REDESIGN - NEW TEST - SHARE! Inventors may be asked to work individually or in small groups.
11:30 am -12:00 pm  A Brief Debrief  & Clean Up Part of inventing is taking time to reflect on what seems to be going well and working and what is difficult and needs tweaking. We'll do this in a quick, fun and supportive way as students pack to leave or break for lunch!
1:00 pm - 1:30 pm Students arriving for the afternoon session start with an Afternoon Attitude Adjustment (like the morning mindset) while morning inventors depart or finish lunch. New mindsets and attitude adjustment themes will be chosen daily. Other examples are: determination, imagination, open mindedness, collaboration, kindness, patience etc.
1:30 pm - 2:15 pm  Group Make It or Break It Extreme!  Another fun and engaging challenge with a supersize punch: building a giant geodesic dome with cardboard, a chain reaction maze from plastic bottles, a human treadmill with newspapers...an exploding mentos geyser outdoors!
2:15 pm -3:30 pm  The Big Kahuna! (Same as morning session.) Based on the one or two projects each inventor selects prior to camp (via private Pinterest board) this is the time inventors devote to digging in and working towards a unique design or goal. Inventors may be asked to work individually or in small groups.
3:30 pm - 4:00 pm  Music, Clean Up & Brief Debrief!  Part of inventing is taking time to reflect, laugh at marvelous mistakes, and look at what seems to be working and what needs tweaking. We'll do this in a quick, fun and supportive way as students pack to leave!
AND that's not all folks!  The day will be filled with fun little extras: spontaneous science jokes and riddles... famous inventor trivia...and maybe a few silly games or skits with Miss Papini and her costume collection!
